Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have been seized by Department of Health authorities during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A man was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines by means of the internet.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the general public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, stated: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medicines can be harmful.

"These types of products being offered, usually online, have undergone no quality control and there can be no guarantee about their security.

"You simply do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not understand the result drugs like this may have on your health."
